Manos is a Computational Geometer, an Algebraist, and a riddle enthousiast.

Born in Chania, Crete, he fell in love with Mathematics, riddles and hourglasses at a young age after seeing The Crystal Maze TV Show. He soon found himself at University of Crete, in Heraklion, studying Mathematics, pure and applied. There, he realized that he was also fond of algorithms and, after pursuing a Ph.D. in Computational Geometry and a postdoc at Algebra & Logic, he ended up designing geometric algorithms for VR/AR at ORamaVR and teaching Computer Graphics at UoC.

Should you see him wandering in a corridor, feel free to talk to him for anything related to mathematics, geometry, algebra, puzzles or bridge (yes, the card game)!

Manos Kamarianakis is an adjunct professor at the Computer Science Department at University of Crete, Heraklion. He is also a research executive at ORamaVR, a spinoff startup company of FORTH, as well as a visiting collaborator with FORTH’s Human-Computer Interaction Lab. His research revolves about Computational Geometry, i.e., he tries to solve geometry-based problems using algebraic techniques, by designing and optimizing the necessary algorithms. His research is applied to Computer Graphics related problems, where he usually exploits the so called Geometric Algebra, a high-dimensional algebra capable to encapsulate objects as well as their transformations in a uniform format, called multivector. As all modern scientists, he tries to incorporate his knowledge and methods with Machine Learning techniques (especially interested in GNNs), towards a better tomorrow.
